A dancer’s white ruffled dress glides in the air as a setting sun bounces off the grass and rhythmic bare feet. Nearby, students and members of the Oberlin community find comfortable spaces and watch intensely as other performers take a turn on the grassy stage. This end-of-the semester showcase serves as inspiration for this week’s photo series.
Students who took classes in the Department of Dance performed in Tappan Square last week. Courses represented in the showcase included Samba, Contemporary, West African, Folkloric Foundations, and Choreography in the Cultural Traditions. Guest performances were given by And What?!, Ballet Oberlin, and OC Aerialists. Musical guests included Samba da Cidade and drummers from Djapo Cultural Arts Institute.
Our photo tour continues with more stops in downtown Oberlin as well as a visit with members of the Oberlin College Marching Band, a final class of the semester in King Hall, and ends with a TGIF sundae in the Science Center bowl.
