Message from President Krislov to the Oberlin Community

September 6, 2016

Marvin Krislov

To the Oberlin Community,

After nearly a decade serving as president, and with the recent completion of the new Strategic Plan and the successful comprehensive campaign, I have decided this will be my last year at Oberlin. My final day as president will be June 30, 2017.

Serving this great college, conservatory, and community has been an honor and a privilege. Working with our terrific faculty, staff, students, parents and alumni to further Oberlin’s mission and to honor Oberlin’s values has been the most educational and fulfilling experience of my life.

Together we have done so much to strengthen Oberlin. I take great pride in all we have achieved, and I look forward to working during the coming year to make Oberlin even stronger and to help chart its future. My focus in the months ahead will be raising additional money for scholarships and supporting implementation of the Strategic Plan.

But after 10 years, I know this is the right moment for me to seek new professional challenges. In the coming weeks, Clyde McGregor, chair of Oberlin's Board of Trustees, will provide details on the search for Oberlin's 15th president. In the meantime, I will work with all Oberlin stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition and a great future for this wonderful College, Conservatory, and community.

Many thanks to all of you for enriching my life and the lives of my family. The experiences we’ve had and the relationships we’ve formed will stay with us always, as will our love of Oberlin.

Sincerely,

Marvin Krislov President

It is hard to believe this will be my final "President’s Desk" column. But in August, I will become president of Pace University in New York. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as your president.

Response to Proposed Federal Budget Cuts

March 31, 2017

The budget proposals being put forward by the Trump administration are deeply troubling in many ways for our society and for American higher education, especially for liberal arts institutions such as Oberlin. The proposed cuts in discretionary spending are contrary to our values of access and inclusion, and our commitment to scientific research, the arts, and the humanities.
