It’s Saturday night in March and there’s a pulsating glow spilling from the windows of the Root Room in Carnegie Building. Inside, rows of spectators line the perimeter of a long narrow stage. Oberlin’s most anticipated fashion show begins as cheers swell when models, draped in creative attire, take their turn down the walk. This is a signature event during Black History Month. It also serves as inspiration for this week’s photo series.

Who is Louise Zeitlin?

Louise Zeitlin started taking violin lessons when she was 5 years old. She can still see the rows of cookies and sweets that welcomed students and guests after each holiday concert. The experience left a lasting impression. Now, as a teacher of viola and director of the Conservatory’s Community Music School, her students are leaving lasting impressions on her. In her former position, Heather Martin was responsible for tracking all of the many events held during Commencement/Reunion Weekend.
