Biography

Melissa McElhill has been director of web and digital strategy at Oberlin College and Conservatory since September 2025. In this role, Melissa is responsible for the strategy, governance, and ongoing development of oberlin.edu and Oberlin's digital marketing and communications, including web analytics, audience strategy, and digital channel performance. She partners with stakeholders across campus to use Oberlin's digital platforms to support enrollment, brand, and institutional priorities, and contributes to the office's broader marketing and communications strategy as a member of its leadership team.

Prior to Oberlin, Melissa was associate director of marketing for Champlain College, where she led marketing strategy for the college's online and graduate programs. Earlier in her career, she held a marketing role in undergraduate admissions at Case Western Reserve University. Melissa came to higher education marketing from teaching: she trained as a Montessori educator with the Association Montessori Internationale and taught children in the United Kingdom, United States, and China. Her work continues to be shaped by questions about how educational environments—including digital ones—form the people who move through them.

Melissa earned a BA in history from the University of Warwick and is completing a Global MBA at Warwick Business School. She also holds professional certificates in marketing and education.
