Planning for ERP, A Major New Technology Initiative

Finance and Administration

Dear colleagues and students,

Over the next five years, Oberlin will undertake a process of designing and implementing a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system: next-generation software that will allow our campus to integrate and automate our core processes.

While extensive, this initiative is also necessary: Our current ERP, Banner by Ellucian, was implemented in 1995 and is no longer supported. Over the past 30 years, our campus’ vital administrative functions have been performed using a patchwork system that is increasingly difficult to maintain and limited in its capacity to serve our needs.

When completed in 2030, the new system will streamline routine processes for students and employees, reduce inefficiencies, enhance reliability, and create a more connected experience for all of us.

To guide our efforts, CIT will maintain a website that provides an overview of the project. We will communicate updates and opportunities for involvement via the Campus Digest. If you have feedback or questions, please feel free to contact the project team at erp@oberlin.edu.

I know the process that lies ahead will be challenging, and I am grateful to be proceeding with collaborative partners across the College of Arts and Sciences, the Conservatory of Music, CIT, and offices throughout campus. We will need the input and expertise of all of us to ensure this transition is a success. Faculty & Staff, please be on the lookout for a survey coming soon. Thank you in advance for your support.

With appreciation,

Rebecca Vazquez-Skillings
