In this talk, Joanne Kim (OC 2026), Student Curatorial Assistant in Asian Art, will present her research on a group of ceramics from Korea's Three Kingdoms Period (ca. 57 BCE-676 CE). Kim will discuss these works through three intertwined histories: their roles in ancient tomb rituals, their unearthing during Japanese colonial excavations in the early 20th century, and their subsequent journey to Oberlin though missionary activity by Oberlin College alumni. These ceramics—many of which have not been displayed for decades—will be featured in an exhibition planned for fall 2026.
This event will be held in a wheelchair- and rolling walker-accessible building. The lecture space is wheelchair accessible, with moveable seating. Restrooms are gender-specific and wheelchair-accessible. Listening devices and ASL are currently not scheduled for this event.
