Oberlin Shansi’s applications for Summer 2026 In-Asia Grant Projects are open!
Applicants may receive an award of up to $1,500 for research, an internship, an artistic/creative project, or a service learning venture in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and East Asia taking place over Summer 2026. First, second, and third-year students are eligible to apply. We will also consider applications from fourth-year double-degree students.
Previously, In-Asia Grant winners have:
- Interned at an economic think tank in Sri Lanka
- Created an online zine on Queer activism in Taiwan
- Conducted research on medical care systems in South India
- Designed artistic projects exploring Pangalay dance and Kulintang music in the Philippines
- Carried out experiential learning projects at organic farms in Taiwan and Japan
- Learned to play horsehead fiddle and explored folk music in Mongolia
Additionally, applications from students seeking to study Asian languages not taught at Oberlin will be considered. Only language programs based in Asia will be considered. Applicants will be encouraged to propose a small, community-engaged project in addition to their language course.
