The Martin Lectures Fund was established by gifts of many friends of Professor Charles Beebe Martin ’76, in recognition of his service of more than 40 years as a teacher of Greek and the Fine Arts. The annual Martin Classical Lectures are among the most prestigious Classical lecture series in the world. They’ve been running since 1926, and have resulted in at least 38 published volumes of Classical scholarship, published by Harvard University Press and Princeton University Press.

THE 2025-26 Charles Beebe Classical Lectures at Oberlin College with guest lecturer Ralph Rosen, Vartan Gregorian Professor of the Humanities and professor of Classical Studies Emeritus of the University of Pennsylvania presenting the series Thinking with Thersites: Afterlives of a Greek Anti-Hero.

Nov. 10: "The Homeric Paradigm"
Nov. 11: "Worst of Men: Thersites in Post-Homeric Antiquity"
Nov. 13: "Thersites, Comedy, and the Nature of Desire"
Nov. 14: "From Buffoon to Cynic: Thersites in Early Modern Drama"
