Are you interested in learning about Bulgaria? Are you interested in dance? Come and join us to learn Bulgarian traditional line dancing! Classes are open to the public, free, and beginner friendly!

In this class, we will be exploring the "Horo," a social and collaborative traditional dance form in Bulgaria that can be characterized as a group line dance. A major aspect of Bulgarian culture, it symbolizes the sense of community, national identity, and intergenerational connection of the Bulgarian people and can be found in many places (from school classrooms to the city center every Sunday!) around Bulgaria. Consisting of a repeated pattern of simple steps, there is no dance experience needed to learn Bulgarian dance and classes are open to the public for people of all ages! We will be learning common "Horo" danced in Bulgaria, such as the "Pravo Horo," "Eleno Mome," and "Byala Roza/ Samokovsko Horo," and will span across six fun classes!

It's not necessary to attend every class, but it is strongly encouraged to get the most out of the experience!

Classes will be held from 6 to 7 pm EST in Studio 2 of the Warner Center on Oberlin College campus (30 N Professor Street). Please contact ekawamur@oberlin.edu for any questions! This project was made possible by the Oberlin Center for Russian, East European, and Central Asian Studies Winter Term Grant.
