Emily Hilpman

  • STEM Program Coordinator

Biography

Emily Hilpman is the STEM program coordinator where she works with team members in the Office of Undergraduate Research and the Center for Learning Education and Research to coordinate and support a variety of programs and events for students interested in pursuing STEM subjects. This includes overseeing the STRONG Scholars program, helping with Roots in STEM housing community, and assisting with the Oberlin Summer Research Institute.

Originally from Cleveland, OH, Emily’s experience in both biological research and student services in higher education contributes to her perspective in this role. She has worked in the desert southwest studying native wildflowers and their pollinators, eastern Washington restoring riparian habitats, and most recently the forests of northeastern Ohio analyzing tree seedling survival. Previously, she served as a program coordinator in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Washington State University for several years, where she gained a passion for helping students find their footing in college.

In this role at Oberlin, Emily’s goal is to make STEM research and subjects more accessible to all students. From writing that first email to a potential research advisor, to preparing for a public presentation or conference, to learning about graduate school, and finally to seeking employment opportunities, she hopes to be a significant source of support and assistance to Oberlin STEM students.
