Drupal Upgrade and Editing Pause June 11–23, 2025
The migration to of our main website to Drupal 10 begins tomorrow, June 11, and the upgrade will go live June 23. If you are not a Drupal editor or have no plans to make any updates in the next few weeks, that’s the whole announcement! If you only need to make Campus Digest updates, keep following the usual process this week and next. But if you do expect to have urgent updates to make on the website before the June 23 changeover, please read on for some important guidance.
Early on June 11, the database for our entire live website (Drupal 7 or “D7”) will be copied to the Drupal 10 (“D10”) server. This copy contains the website content that will go live on June 23. Please note that, without careful planning, any updates made on D7 after June 10 will suddenly disappear on June 23 when we switch the public site over to D10.
The best way to avoid losing any D7 edits is to hold off making any until June 23. That’s the “editing pause” we mentioned. However, even though this is a very light time of year for web editing, we understand that there will be some things that must be published or edited on the live D7 site during those 12 days. It will be possible to do so: the key to success is that the same edits will have to be re-entered on the D10 site. If we are all careful about doing this, then the edit will appear on the site both before the cutover and after. To site visitors it will look like nothing changed.
If are a Drupal user and you expect to have edits that must be made during the pause, please let the webteam know. We’ll make sure you have access to the D10 environment, and we’ll provide pre-launch training so you can duplicate your edits in D10 during the June 16–18 quality assurance window (after the technical work of the migration is complete and we’re checking and fixing things).
I hope this makes sense and doesn’t cause you much stress. If it does, please get in touch, and together we’ll figure out a way to make it work for you.
Thank you for your flexibility and cooperation!
