Testing and Move-In Dates for Summer Term

April 26, 2021 4:00 PM

Communications Staff

We are excited to welcome back the sophomores and other students who studied remotely so far this year. Testing and move-in will occur May 20 and May 21 for students returning to campus for the summer term.

Move-in dates

Your move-in appointment is based on your COVID-19 testing appointment. Any student who is not fully vaccinated (2-weeks after the second dose of Moderna or Pfizer OR 2-weeks after one dose of J&J) will be required to have a COVID-19 test at Hale’s Gym upon arrival to campus. Please see below for additional information about an exemption process for testing and quarantining.

If you are not required to have a COVID-19 test, please go directly to the Residential Education Check-in (Science Center Atrium, 119 Woodland St.) on either May 20 or May 21 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

After hours arrival

If your travel is delayed and you arrive after testing and check-in have concluded for the day, please go to Campus Safety (140 West College Street). If your COVID test was scheduled for May 20, you will be able to reschedule your test for May 21 by logging into Oberview prior to 9 p.m. on May 20. After 9 p.m. on May 20 you will have to email covid.testing@oberlin.edu in order to schedule for the following day. If you arrive after hours on May 21 and need to take a COVID test you must email covid.testing@oberlin.edu to reschedule.  Campus Safety will have a snack bag, courtesy of AVI Fresh, for you which will contain information concerning your dining schedule. Please quarantine until your assigned testing time if you need a test, after which you should proceed to the Res Ed check-in location (Science Center Atrium, 119 Woodland St.) to complete the move-in process. Additional questions may be directed to the Dean of Students office at 440-775-8462.

Testing

All students (except for students exempt—see more information below) studying on campus and who do not have a health restriction precluding them from the test must be tested for COVID-19 upon arrival. Please follow the instructions below to schedule your initial test.

Any student who is not fully vaccinated (2-weeks after the second dose of Moderna or Pfizer OR 2-weeks after one dose of J&J) will be required to have a COVID-19 test at Hale’s Gym upon arrival to campus.

Vaccinations

We strongly encourage you to make every effort to obtain a COVID-19 vaccination prior to returning to campus. Once you have received your final vaccine, please upload the vaccine card to the Student Health portal. You must upload your card no later than May 10, 2021, to be exempt from move-in testing and quarantine. There will be no exceptions to this policy.

Vaccines that are obtained in another country will likely be accepted as proof of vaccination, even if the United States has not provided Emergency Use Authorization (EUA).  Students must upload their vaccine card to the Student Health portal. The Lorain Public Health Department will verify that the vaccine provides adequate immunity.

Students who have traveled internationally

Currently, the CDC recommends that anyone (vaccinated or unvaccinated) who travels internationally quarantine for seven days after their arrival and have a COVID-19 test on day 3-5. The test result does not decrease the length of stay in quarantine. Oberlin follows CDC recommendations so quarantine and testing will be required. Those who are fully vaccinated must still follow CDC recommendations. Oberlin will modify guidelines if the CDC changes its recommendations. If you plan to travel internationally between May 12, 2021 and your arrival on campus for the summer term you must complete this questionnaire

The first week of summer semester will be remote-accessible.

Scheduling your appointment

Begin by watching this brief video on how to schedule your test. Then visit the Oberlin College COVID-19 test scheduling page to sign up for an appointment.

While appointments are brief (approximately 30 minutes), we ask that you make 1 hour available to allow for possible delays. You will receive a reminder email message prior to your appointment.

Because of the volume of tests we must complete each week and the criticality of these tests to the health of our community, we ask that you not cancel or reschedule your appointment. If you miss your appointment, you will be tested at a designated make-up day and time.

On test day

At your designated appointment time, go to the Hales Gym (180 West Lorain). Please be prompt, as arriving late could delay testing for others.

When you approach the entrance, Mercy Health – Allen Hospital employees will take your temperature and ask you questions the Centers for Disease Control requires. Then you will complete a consent form and answer questions the Ohio Department of Health requires. In order to be tested, you must know or have quick access to your T#. You will then be directed to wait until a health care professional becomes available to take your sample. For details on the testing process, visit the COVID-19 Testing Overview bulletin.

If you prefer, you can print and fill out your consent form ahead of time. The consent form must be signed in the presence of a witness; if you do not have a witness, bring your form unsigned and you can sign it at the time of your test. Please do not fill in the Ohio Department of Health questionnaire ahead of time.

After you complete your test, go directly to Res Ed Check-in located in the Science Center Atrium.
