2014 New Year New Me Features Nutrition
The 2014 New Year New Me (NYNM) program will run from January 6 to 31, 2014.
Since 2011, the Office of Wellness has sponsored NYNM during the month of January as a way to help faculty and staff realize their health and wellness New Year resolutions.
The program connects faculty and staff through a mentor-mentee program. Mentors are faculty and staff who practice a fitness or wellness activity; mentees are faculty and staff who might need an added incentive or motivation to get started or to recommit to their health and fitness goals.
It is not too late to sign up if you would like to mentor or work with another faculty or staff person in a wellness or fitness activity. New Year New Me will run from January 6 through January 31. Let the wellness office know by sending an e-mail to email@example.com no later than Monday, December 23.
New NYNM Nutrition Series
Eating healthy and getting fit are among the topics NYNM participants have most wanted to explore. The topic of nutrition came up again in last year’s wellness survey , when “staff and faculty indicated they wanted more information on nutrition,” says Lori Morgan Flood, director of wellness.
If you are among those interested in learning more about nutrition—how what’s in your lunch bag impacts weight loss or gain, how to eat healthy on a budget, and what items to stock in your pantry to prepare quick and nutritious meals—then you’ll want to check out NYNM’s lunch and learn series with campus dietician Eric Pecherkiewicz.
The dates for the lunch and learn programs are Wednesday, January 8, Friday, January 17, and Wednesday, January 22. The lunch and learn programs take place from 12:15 to 1 p.m. in Wilder 101.
The first program will feature a healthy lunch with a short talk on basic nutrition. The second program will be a brown bag lunch in which participants will be asked “what’s in your lunch bag?” followed by a discussion on ways to make healthy, nutritious, and filling lunches, especially if participants have questions and concerns about weight management. The third program will focus on eating healthy on a budget, with a box lunch provided.
The series will culminate in a dinnertime cooking demonstration and meal on Tuesday, January 28, starting at 5 p.m. in the Lord/Saunders Dining Hall. The demonstration will focus on using items commonly found in your pantry and will be followed by a meal prepared by one of the campus dining chefs, Matt Krasnevich,
