Albert Herring
by Benjamin Britten | libretto by Eric Crozier

Directed by Stephanie Havey
Conducted by Michael Sakir '06

What to do when all the young girls in town are of unsuitable character to be the May Queen? Well, how about Albert?

Benjamin Britten's only true comedy, Albert Herring, is about a shy, innocent boy who, frustrated with small-town conventions, breaks free from the expectations of society and discovers his confidence, independence, and self-worth.

This three-act chamber opera was composed in 1946-47, with a libretto by Eric Crozier based on Guy de Maupassant's novella Le Rosier de Madame Husson.
