Join the Multicultural Resource Center once more in our observation of Black History Month: Black History Year and Women’s History Month 2022. This year, we are honored to host Tameka Ellington as a featured lecturer.

Tameka Ellington is an educator, professional development strategist, and personal growth expert. She is CEO and founder of First Generation Revolutionaries, an empowerment movement that enhances the lives of students and young professionals who are first generation college students and graduates. Recently, she also started the Ellington Foundation with the mission of supporting first generation college students studying the arts.

Additionally, Ellington is the cocurator and author of TEXTURES: the history and art of Black hair, a museum exhibition and catalogue featuring over 150 artifacts and contemporary works focused on Black hair. Her featured lecture, “The Struggle Is Still Real: Black Beauty, A Square Peg in a Proverbial Round Hole,” builds on her work in Textures by discussing the history and contemporary state of Black beauty in our society. Her work will explore how women have both adhered to and fought against colorism and texturism across history, highlighting important continuities and ongoing issues.
