The Allen Memorial Art Museum has an active schedule of changing exhibitions from its permanent collection and on loan from other important museums that are displayed in the museum’s galleries. The Ellen Johnson Gallery, named for the influential art historian and curator who taught at Oberlin for 38 years, features works from the museum’s modern and contemporary collections, ranging from Claude Monet's Wisteria to a sculpture by Tim Hawkinson.

Johnson died in 1992.
