Did you know that an alarming 82% of data breaches in 2022 were caused by the human element? Yes, it can be as simple as innocently clicking on a link in a phishing email. And brace yourselves for this: the average cost of a cyber breach for institutions like ours amounts to a staggering $4.35 million.

But here's the good news: we hold the power to prevent the vast majority of these attacks. To enable our campus community to ward against these attacks, we have established a required employee security awareness training. The training provides a short, game-like experience designed to make learning fun and engaging. This training is specifically tailored to equip our community members with the essential knowledge needed to protect themselves and Oberlin from potential cyber threats.

All staff will receive an email tomorrow, Thursday, June 15 with a link to the training courses. You can also access the training platform, called Curricula, through OberView. The course is expected to take no more than 30 minutes and it must be completed no later than June 30, 2023.

Once you complete this informative training, you'll receive a well-deserved certificate to proudly showcase your #CyberAware status. By completing this training program, you will help us strengthen our cybersecurity defenses against these risks. In addition to strengthening cybersecurity, your participation supports our efforts to manage the costs of insurance coverage.

Remember, this training is required and you are the shield that safeguards Oberlin's security.
