Theater at Oberlin

The Department of Theater presents a range of theatrical productions each academic year, including productions done by faculty and students.

Each year, the Department of Theater presents a season of theatrical offerings that includes three faculty or guest-directed mainstage productions in Hall Auditorium, and several student-directed projects in Kander Theater. Casting for all productions are open to all Oberlin College students.

In addition to productions sponsored by the department, students may participate in plays sponsored by other departments and such student theater organizations such as Oberlin Student Theater Association (OSTA) and Oberlin Musical Theater Association (OMTA).

The fall lineup features Nobel Prize-winning author Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye, adapted for the stage by playwright Lydia Diamond. Associate Professor of Theater and Africana studies Justin Emeka ’95 directs.

The two-time Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece Angels in America, Parts 1 and 2 by playwright Tony Kushner unfolds on stage in the spring. Professor of Theater Matthew Wright directs.
