Who is Maggie Nieves?

Nieves is Oberlin's new deputy human resources officer.

Deputy human resources officer Maggie Nieves joined Oberlin College nearly four months ago. Read about Nieves’ role in the Department of Human Resources and what she does for fun in this installment of Who Am I?

Department and location on campus: Deputy Human Resources Officer (DHRO) in the Department of Human Resources, located in the Ronald R. Watts Service Building.

What does your job entail? As the deputy human resources officer, I am responsible for assisting the chief human resources officer in developing and executing human resource strategy in support of the overall institutional plan and strategic direction of the college, specifically in the areas of succession planning, talent management, change management, organizational and performance management, training and development, and compensation. Also in this position, I will manage the dispute resolution process for non-represented staff and act as the point of contact for the college’s four unions: United Automobile Workers (UAW); Oberlin College Office and Professional Employees (OCOPE); Oberlin College Security Association (OCSA); and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners. The DHRO also oversees the intake of union grievances with the goal of seeking resolution.

How long have you been at Oberlin? Since November 2, 2020.

What are your hobbies or personal interests? I am an avid Cleveland sports fan and enjoy attending games. I come from a very large Hispanic family, and I have a passion to cook and learn new recipes. As a hobby, I love to organize and help others get organized.

Favorite food? Hispanic and Italian food
