Message from the Conservatory Deans Office (March 10, 2020)

March 10, 2020 10:00 PM

Office of the Dean of the Conservatory

Dear friends and members of the Oberlin College and Conservatory community:

While there are no suspected cases of COVID-19 on our campus or in our community, we have chosen to limit public gatherings for concerts and other performances during the coming days to ensure the health and wellness of our community.

Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, Oberlin Conservatory has made the decision to close Hall Auditorium to patrons for the Oberlin Opera Theater production of Mozart’s Così fan tutte. The opera will still be performed, however, and we are currently working on the necessary technology to make the performances on Saturday and Sunday available via live stream. We will publicize the link to the live stream as soon as it becomes available. [Update: visit go.oberlin.edu/opera-theater-live for the Hall Auditorium livestream.]

As the opera is double cast, live streaming multiple performances will ensure that audiences will have the opportunity to see all cast members. Performance times are Saturday, March 14 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 15 at 2 p.m.

All tickets purchased to date will be refunded upon request. Please contact the Oberlin College Central Ticket Service at 800-371-0178, between noon and 5 p.m., or by email at cts@oberlin.edu.

Other faculty and student recitals in conservatory venues will be limited to small audiences of no more than 50 people. We recommend that attendance at recitals be limited to immediate family and close friends.

Some events with visiting guest artists may be canceled. Please check the online events calendar at calendar.oberlin.edu to confirm whether a performance or master class will take place. We will issue additional updates as the situation develops.

Sincerely,

William Quillen, Dean
