Bring Your Own Lunch and join us for an informal conversation with Michael E. Shifter ’77, a widely respected expert on Latin America, U.S.-Latin American relations, and hemispheric affairs. This event is open to all current Oberlin students interested in exploring careers and professional pathways connected to Latin America and the Caribbean, including foreign service, foreign policy, international trade, security, human rights, government, and nonprofit and NGO work.
A former president of the Inter-American Dialogue and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Shifter currently teaches at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and regularly contributes to Foreign Affairs. Throughout his career, he has held administrative and advisory roles with organizations including the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA), Human Rights Watch, Columbia University’s Institute of Latin American and Iberian Studies, and the Graduate School of International Relations at the University of Denver.
Bring your questions and your curiosity to learn about Shifter’s journey from Oberlin to a distinguished career in international affairs, explore opportunities for working in or on Latin America and the Caribbean, and gain insights into translating your academic interests and experiences into meaningful global careers.
