Academic Advising Resource Center

Withdrawal

Students who wish to leave Oberlin without completing their degree must formally initiate the withdrawal process through the Academic Advising Resource Center (AARC).

The withdrawal process begins with a required meeting with an AARC advisor. Schedule an appointment from the AARC scheduling page, stop in during office hours, or call 440-775-8450.

Special Considerations

  • Conservatory and double-degree students should first consult their principal advisors and the associate dean of the conservatory.
  • All students who receive financial aid from Oberlin College must consult with the Office of Financial Aid before withdrawing.
  • International students considering must consult with International Student and Scholar Services before withdrawing.

Deadlines

  • Current Semester Withdrawal: The deadline to initiate a withdrawal for a current semester is the end of business hours on the last day of class.
  • Future Semester Withdrawal: To receive a matriculation fee refund, withdrawal for a future semester must be initiated by the end of business hours on the last Friday before classes end in the preceding semester.

In order to return to Oberlin, a student who has been withdrawn must apply for reinstatement through the Academic Advising Resource Center/Office of the Registrar. Appropriate forms and materials must be received by the deadlines stated on the Office of the Registrar’s reinstatement web page. Relevant offices review the application for reinstatement and the student will be informed about the decision as quickly as possible. Students who have withdrawn from Oberlin and seek reinstatement typically cannot transfer credit for courses taken at other institutions while withdrawn.

If you would like to talk with someone about returning to Oberlin, call 440-775-8450 or email aarc@oberlin.edu.
