Biography

Often a new generation flattens the images it inherits from the previous one. It is a way of legitimizing one's milieu, claiming space for oneself, and creating a measure of distance and deniability. Ian Page (b. 1968) is drawn to the images that survive this process of generational flattening. In approaching these durable images, Page asks: Why, and how, does the concept of origin continue to exert such authority over the present?

Page has had recent solo exhibitions at the Hudson D. Walker Gallery (Provincetown, MA), Galerie van Gelder (Amsterdam), and Kunstmuseum Bochum (Germany). He has participated in residencies at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Skowhegan, and the Fine Arts Work Center. He received an MFA from Yale University and a BA from Oberlin College.
