Please join the Mathematics Department in welcoming Barry Cipra, freelance mathematics writer, who will give a talk on 'From Art to Math and Back Again'. A reception will be held before at 4 p.m. in King Building Room 203. All are welcome. Abstract below.

Can looking at a work of art lead to new mathematics? Can looking at the math suggest new artistic possibilities? I’ll show some examples where the answer in each direction is arguably yes.
