IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS

Dear New International Students:

Congratulations on your admission to Oberlin - we are thrilled that you'll be joining our college community in the fall! The International Student Orientation begins with a welcome dinner on Saturday, August 23rd, and goes on for two days, Sunday and Monday, August 24th and 25th. Orientation for all new students starts on Tuesday, August 26th. Please check this website after June 20th for a complete orientation schedule and latest updates. Don't hesitate to email us or call us with questions. We look forward to welcoming you in person!

As you are making travel plans and purchasing plane tickets to and from the United States for the 2008-09 academic year, please keep in mind the following dates:

New International Student Arrival: August 22 or 23

Note: All other new students are expected to arrive on

August 26

Returing students are expected to arrive on August 31 Classes start September 2

Fall Break: October 18 - 26

(residence halls open; dining facilities closed)

Winter Shutdown: December 20 - January 2

(residence halls and dining facilities closed,

all students expected to leave campus)

Winter Term: January 2 - 27

(residence halls and one dining facility open)

Spring Semester classes start February 2

Spring Break: March 21 - 29

Spring Semester ends: May 17

Residence halls close: May 18

(residence halls open ONLY for graduates and students working for commencement)

Graduates and commencement workers leave campus: May 25 - 27

Please note that the college does NOT allow final exam time changes for personal travel reasons, so we advise you to book a plane ticket for the last day of the semester to avoid potential time conlficts with final exams. The final exam schedule is published at the very start of each semester (check the Registrar's office website), so as soon as your course schedule is finalized and you've received the course syllabi from your professors, you should be able to figure out when your final exams will be, and at that point, you could probably still reschedule your plane ticket (if need be) since you'd be doing it a few months in advance.
