Wireless Networks

eduroam

  • Security & Reliability: For a secure connection, choose eduroam. It’s the recommended network for portable devices like laptops and smartphones, ensuring your data remains protected.
  • Initial Setup: The first time you connect, you’ll need to enter your ObieID and password and accept a security certificate.
  • Connection Guide: Detailed instructions for connecting to eduroam can be found in our eduroam Connection Guide.

ObieConnect

  • Purpose-Built for Stationary Devices: ObieConnect is designed for stationary consumer devices, including smart speakers, TVs, and gaming systems.
  • Multi-Device Friendly: Obtain a unique password to connect up to 20 devices securely.
  • Setup Guide: Detailed instructions for setting up ObieConnect can be found in our ObieConnect Setup Guide.

ObieWiFi

  • Legacy Network: ObieWiFi is our legacy network, but it’s not as secure as eduroam or ObieConnect.
  • Phasing Out: ObieWiFi will be retired in June 2024.
  • Recommendation: While ObieWiFi is still available, we encourage you to migrate to eduroam for enhanced security.

Visitors

If you’re a visitor without an ObieID, find instructions on connecting to our network on the Visitors page.

Wired Network

Many office locations on campus are equipped with active wired network ports. In residence hall rooms, wired network ports are available but not activated by default. To request activation of a network port in any location, please open a service request using the CIT Tech Support Portal.
