7 to 800 copies of The Voice  stolen Saturday

Voice staff believes theft a response to article

by Susanna Henighan

Between 700 and 800 copies of The Voice,  a student publication devoted to political discourse, were stolen last Saturday soon after issues were distributed, according to members of the magazine's editorial staff.

Turaj Zaimi, editor-in-chief of The Voice  and college senior said the copies were stolen from Wilder information desk, the mailroom and Mudd. The issues were worth around $350 according to Voice  publisher Adam Stenftenagel.

Zaimi said he believes the copies of the Voice were stolen by students in response to junior Scott Hennessy's article criticizing the anonymous group of students calling themselves trembles our rage. The article criticizes the packet the group put together critical of certain aspects of Oberlin. Five hundred to 550 packets were distributed to prospective students during the All Roads Lead to Oberlin Week sponsored by the Office of Admissions.

"Our publications are missing. If it happens to be because of my article then those people now have 7 to 800 copies of the article, and so they should understand better than anybody else my use of the word 'coward,'" Hennessey said.

Zaimi said he has confirmed that the issues were stolen "probably due to the article slamming trembles' anonymous packet."

"I am enraged," Zaimi said. "It is a total betrayal to what people of color are trying to do on this campus."

Several individuals involved with trembles our rage did not respond to messages left early Friday morning.

The Voice  is planning to have another print run of its April issue, to come out on Saturday. The reprinting is being funded by the Muslim Student Group and several other student groups.

Several hundred copies of The Voice's  March issue were taken as well. Hennessey said he does not think there is a connection between the two cases; he said he thinks the March issue could have been taken by prospectives and faculty the staff did not expect would take copies.
