Men's tennis loses two

The men's tennis team lost two matches this weekend to the College of Wooster and Ohio Northern University. The final score against Wooster, who is ranked third in the conference, was 7-0. The score against Ohio Northern was 5-2.

The lineup for Oberlin remains strong with the guys putting forth their best effort. Wooster swept all six singles. Co-captain senior Koji Ebersole lost 6-4 to Jordan Strauss, a sophomore who is 7-4 at number one. Senior Tony Choi lost 6-0, 6-0 to Erik Bloom. The number two player for Wooster, Bill Marcell, was absent from the lineup, and the whole thing had to move up one position.

Sophomore Sam Steckley fought in three sets against Matt Riva 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1), but was unable to turn the tide. Sophomore Mike O'Connell lost 6-1, 6-3 torick Gale, who is undefeated in his usual position at number five.

Co-captain sophomore Peter Swendson lost 6-4, 6-2 to Andy Sharp who is 4-0 in the conference. Sophomore Eric Shin lost 6-1, 7-5 to Mackie Feierstein.

In Doubles, Swendson and Steckley won over Riva and Strauss 8-6. The number two team of Ebersole and O'Connell lost 8-5, and number three Choi and junior Andy Kim lost 8-4. Coach Chris Barker said, "I still cannot emphasize the importance of winning the doubles point. It gives us an upper hand over our opponents."

Ohio Northern, the Yeomen's second opponent that day, is a member of the Ohio Athletic Conference, along with such teams as Baldwin-Wallace College and John Carroll University. Their record is 7-5 for the spring season.

Ebersole lost his match 6-1, 6-2. Choi lost to Joe Richards 6-3, 6-0. The number three and four positions were captured by the Oberlin men. Steckley won 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 and Swendson won 7-6 (7-3) 6-1.

Shin, at number five, played phenomenally against Matt Ritterspach, but lost 7-5, 7-6 (8-6). First-year Jon Stinson played number six against Greg Myers, who won 6-3, 6-4. ONU swept the doubles point.

The Yeomen are 5-11 in the season and play Allegheny College and Wittenberg University on Saturday.
