Whistles available now

[Note: The following is an open letter to the Oberlin community.]

To the Editor:

Due to the recent focus upon campus safety issues, an emergency whistle system is being implemented. Security recently received a donation of 1200 whistles. Because there are not enough whistles for every student, whistles will be distributed on a voluntary basis the week of April 22nd in Wilder Bowl. The system will begin to operate after that week.

These whistles are for emergency use only and should be responded to as such. Upon receiving a whistle, students will sign a contract stating that they will not abuse the whistle system and acknowledging their understanding that they will be fined for false alarms.

If you hear a whistle being blown after that week, it should be taken as an emergency signal and reported immediately to campus security.
