Men's rugby team victorious in opener

The Oberlin men's rugby team knew they'd have to play tough to vanquish the College of Wooster last Saturday. They'd have to crash through the Scots' back line, silence their scrum, and destroy the Scots.

"A couple of fights broke out," said co-captain senior Leo Kim, "Everyone played really hard."

Neither team was able to score in the first half. Although Oberlin has rolled over Wooster in the past, this year's team proved harder to defeat. "Wooster was a little tougher this year," Kim said.

The game remained scoreless throughout most of the second half. Sophomore Badeti Tibone was finally able to put points on the board for Oberlin with a successful field goal. Tibone's penalty play put Oberlin ahead by three points.

The team was able to declare the game Oberlin territory following a try by sophomore Matt Hayden. Oberlin shut out Wooster 10-0.

"For a first game, it was a good game," said junior Jeff Kurtzweil. "We played tight rugby and drank the keg afterwards."
