Give the gift of life

On Oct. 11, blood will be shed in the corridor of Philips Gym, but not from the recent football game or volleyball match; this loss will be incurred on behalf of Red Cross.

The first annual on-campus Red Cross Blood Drive is sponsored by the Oberlin College Recreation Center. The entire campus is encouraged to participate, whether through donating blood, baking snacks for the donors or volunteering time at the event.

Senior Allison O’Donnell, the College student sponsor, expects the turnout to be high. The main objective of this event is getting students involved, along with reaching the goal of 40 pints of blood.

“If you can’t give blood, volunteer or make snacks. Even encourage a friend to help out,” said O’Donnell.

Guidelines for donor eligibility include being at least 17 years of age, weighing at least 110 pounds, being free of cold or flu symptoms and having not traveled to a malaria area in the past year.

The blood drive will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the lobby of Philips Gym.
