The Director of Undergraduate Research is available to work with instructors and students to support course-based research. Instructors may schedule a consultation with Ofori-Mensa to discuss course design and best practices for structuring research experiences within the context of a course. Dr. Ofori-Mensa is also available for scheduled guest facilitations in first-year seminars, research seminars, capstone seminars, honors seminars, ExCos, and other courses to teach students about generating research questions, designing a research project, working effectively with research mentors, writing a research paper, and developing and delivering compelling research presentations.
We know that long-term projects can feel like “extra work” that you hardly manage to make time for on top of regularly scheduled course and extracurricular responsibilities. Oftentimes things like applications, semester papers, and major research projects, which can have the most impact on your future success, are also the last things you get to. To help with that, the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) hosts a weekly Write-on-Site every Wednesday from 3–5 p.m. Students, faculty, and staff are welcome to come by for any part of that time, to sit together in quiet community, share goals, set timers, and work on their research and writing projects. Bring your books, laptops, and headphones. We always provide snacks and tea. Come join us at OUR big table this Wednesday anytime between 3–5 p.m.!
Poster Tube Rental
If you will presenting at a conference and need something to carry your research poster in, OUR has two expandable (24.5”–40”) poster tubes available to rent, for a $5 deposit. Tubes are available on a first-come-first-served basis. Contact OUR Administrative Assistant Diana Tebo for more information.
Do you need a study break? Are you craving some puppy therapy? Once a week during the semester, OUR has an office dog! His name is Bo, he is a beagle/hound mix, and OUR Administrative Assistant Diana Tebo belongs to him. He is very mellow and sometimes shy. He loves to hang out with students and go for walks. Bo will be holding walk-in and by-appointment office hours on Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon and 1–5 p.m. during spring semester 2019. Contact Diana Tebo to inquire about taking Bo for a walk, or stop by the office and meet him.
