Vice President for Finance and Administration Rebecca Vazquez-Skillings announces the appointment of associate vice president for finance.

Dear colleagues,

Following a thorough and thoughtful search process, Nicole Addington has been appointed associate vice president for finance, filling the recently vacated position. She began October 1, 2019, reporting to the vice president for finance and administration.

The associate vice president (AVP) for finance is a key member of the Office of Finance and Administration, which is responsible for leading, directing, monitoring, and providing strategic partnership for all finance functions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, federal/state regulations, college policies and guidelines, and leading business practices. The AVP works strategically and collaboratively to enhance and plan for the college's financial strength through analysis, innovative ideas, cost-effective approaches, high quality budgeting and monitoring, accurate accounting and tax compliance, and useful reporting for decision-making and benchmarking. The AVP ensures a strong system of institutional internal controls through clear policies and procedures. The AVP works closely with the vice president for finance and administration with long-term planning and daily administration of institutional finances and on strategic matters, including support for the Board of Trustees.

The AVP provides administrative leadership and oversight of all finance-related functions, including accounting, budget planning and analysis, debt management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and certain procurement functions. The AVP leads a 15-member finance team in the development, oversight, and reporting of the college's budget.

The AVP is also responsible for key cross-functional collaborations that support financially sound college policies, planning, and practices to include members of the president's leadership team, the Department of Human Resources, the Center for Information Technology, Facilities Operations, Facilities Planning and Construction, the College of Arts and Sciences Admissions Office, Conservatory Admissions, the Office of Financial Aid, the Office of Institutional Research, the Office of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Office of the Dean of the Conservatory.

Addington comes to Oberlin after more than 13 years at Case Western Reserve University. She served as the assistant dean of finance at the School of Medicine, where she oversaw all aspects of the school’s financial operations and, prior to that, worked in the Office of Audit Services. Addington began her career in public accounting at Hausser + Taylor, where her client base included institutions of higher education and non-profit organizations.

During her time in higher education, Addington worked collaboratively with a cross functional team of administrative offices, developing and monitoring financial recovery models, key performance metrics, and productivity models.

Addington is a certified public accountant and earned a bachelor of science in accountancy at the University of Dayton. She also actively serves on several boards and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Ohio Society of CPAs.

Addington’s breadth of experience in higher education will serve Oberlin well as the College looks to enhance its teaching, research, and services; improve students’ campus experience; and further the educational and co-curricular missions of the college and conservatory.

A sincere thank you to the members of the search committee who represented the various departments across campus for their thoughtful and valuable engagement:
