Biography

Nathan Carpenter is the director of academic peer advising and coordinator for strategic initiatives in the College of Arts and Sciences. In these roles, he supports the development and implementation of programs and initiatives across the College, with a particular focus on helping students transition successfully to Oberlin life and learning, connect academic and experiential learning opportunities, and flourish during their time on campus and beyond.

Carpenter oversees the Peer Advising Leaders (PAL) and Sophomore Opportunities and Academic Resources (SOAR) programs. Both programs use a cohort-based peer advising model to support the academic advising experience and help students engage meaningfully with opportunities inside and outside of the classroom.

Carpenter earned a BA at Oberlin College with high honors in comparative American studies and environmental studies and a minor in law and society. While a student, he served for two years as editor-in-chief of the Oberlin Review, Oberlin’s student-run publication of record. He has also worked with the PAL and SOAR programs from the time that each was established.
