Project Description

Jason Molina was a songwriter from Lorain, OH, who graduated from Oberlin in 1996. He went on to have a prolific music career, creating some 30 records before he died of liver failure in 2013 following a long battle with alcoholism. Blue collar through and through, Molina’s music paid tribute to the midwest and his humble origins on the shores of Lake Erie. My documentary film will revisit the making of Molina’s most famous album, 2003’s The Magnolia Electric Co., using archival materials and interviews with the players to capture the spirit of the enigmatic and beloved songwriter.
