Carrie Frey


Carrie Frey, violist, studied with Professor Peter Slowik. Carrie began studying viola with Kathryn Dey in 2008 at the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities. She attended the National Symphony Orchestra’s Summer Music Institute in 2009 and 2010, the National Orchestral Institute and Pacific Music Festival in 2011, and the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble in 2012. At Oberlin she has performed in the Contemporary Music Ensemble, as principal of Oberlin Orchestra, and with Chartreuse, an ensemble focused mainly on contemporary repertoire. She has also toured with Bonne Action, an Oberlin-based new music ensemble, performing in Oberlin; Buffalo, NY; and Greenville, SC. Bonne Action’s upcoming performances in 2013 include a residency at the University of Akron and a tour in Massachusetts. While at Oberlin, Carrie performed nearly 50 student compositions and premiered works by faculty members Lewis Nielson and Daniel Tacke. Upcoming premieres include solo works by Gerard Marcus and Matthew Chamberlain.
