Aliya Ultan is a composer and cellist from Brooklyn, NY. As a teenager Ultan participated in the New York Philharmonic’s Very Young Composer’s Program where her music was both workshopped and performed at Lincoln Center. In 2011, Ultan was accepted to the Interlochen Arts Academy on a full scholarship where she studied composition with Dr. Cynthia Van Maanen and cello with Crispin Campbell. Ultan is a winner of From the Top’s Jack Kent Cooke Award, YoungArts, Oberlin’s MLK grant, Michigan Education Association: Best Composer Award, and Interlochen’s Niel Rabaut Young Composer Scholarship. Currently, Ultan is a junior at the Oberlin Conservatory studying cello performance with professor Darrett Adkins and composition with Dr. Elizabeth Ogonek, Dr. Stephen Hartke, and Dr. Jesse Jones.
