Oberlin Opera Theater and conservatory voice majors present the third-ever production of this gripping and unsettling chamber opera by composer Missy Mazzoli and librettist Royce Vavrek. Based on the short story from Karen Russell’s 2013 collection Vampires in the Lemon Grove, the opera highlights the horrors of one family’s pursuit of land under the post-Civil War Homestead Act in 75 minutes of seamless musical theater.
Oberlin’s production is directed by Assistant Professor of Opera Theater Christopher Mirto and conducted by Joseph Hodge.
A talkback with special guests follows each performance.
Cleveland Opera Theater sponsors the performance and talkback on February 4.
