The intersection of gender and race is a critical topic in the study of Black music. How has gender shaped the historiography of Black musical genres? How can female-identifying performers and academics advocate for fuller representation? Join four scholars, each of whom studied or taught at Oberlin—Courtney-Savali Andrews, Ambre Dromgoole, Fredara Hadley, and Alisha Lola Jones—for a discussion of these questions. Moderated by student Ava Brown.
