A seemingly rhetorical question but as the world celebrates the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth, Oberlin faculty members Peter Takács (piano), Jesse Jones (composition), and Annemarie Sammartino (history) delve into his iconic identity and the enduring popularity of his music by posing some profound questions: What is a masterpiece? What is genius and who decides? Did Beethoven’s towering presence open or close doors to future composers? Listen in to this Con/College Café discussion as Stage Left considers Beethoven’s legacy and what might be said about him 250 years from now.
