From April 30th - June 4th, discover a special way to experience the Allen Memorial Art Museum through the TraceAllen iPhone app, designed by Ivy Fu ‘23, a TIMARA (Technology in Music and Related Arts) and Art History double degree student at Oberlin College as part of her Junior Recital. Through the app, visitors can engage with Ivy’s multi-media installation Trace. In the 30-40 minutes of this interactive narrative, visitors trace the steps of a ghost, unwrapping riddles framed in poetry and listen to new musical compositions created by Ivy to accompany several artworks. On every Saturday from 2:30 to 3:30pm, Ivy will be at the Allen to provide assistance with the iPhone App and answer any questions.

Join us on a night of music at the Allen on May 5th. Following the performance of the amazing Sonny Rollins ensemble, Ivy will introduce Trace to the visitors.

Program:

White Net (10’)

Shuai Wang, piano

Exploration of a connection among a dot, a line, and surface. Seeking to establish sonic dimension by layering 12 tone hyper-meter phrases upon each other.

A construct of obsession and infinite repetition.

Cafe (10’)

Ivy Fu, fixed media

Attempt on the relationship between fast motion and sound. While the painting is layers upon layers, the sound is given freedom to travel between the planes. Speaks openly about the association and dissociation that music has about space.

Laocoon (10’)

Joshua Reinier, voice

Gravity, and therefore structure, defines a sculpture. Any construct, social or personal,  relies on structure too. Whether built on pipes we wouldn’t know. We give a skin to the structure to soften it, but attempt to shape it upwards never stop. The crafting process can’t stop even if it has become exhaustive. How we miss lying in the arms of our mothers but are being pierced inside out by our own bones.
