All faculty and staff are invited to our first meetings to begin Oberlin’s grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Inclusive Excellence initiative. Oberlin is one of 24 U.S. colleges and universities awarded Inclusive Excellence funding, and our grant aims to advance its historic role in inclusion by enhancing the climate for and success of a diverse student population in STEM.

Building on a series of listening sessions that brought together 120 individuals from 42 offices and departments to form a shared vision and an enhanced model for inclusion as proposed in our grant, these facilitated reading and discussion groups (learning communities) aim to include faculty and staff from across campus to encourage the emergence of ideas and approaches that can advance inclusive excellence at Oberlin. These communities will engage and empower faculty and staff in the change process, deepen their understanding of strategies for leading organizational transformation, and provide information, cross-fertilization, and mutual support across Oberlin.

Initial formation of these learning communities will take place at lunch time. The meetings will be identical, so we invite you to come to one of the two next week.

This will also be an opportunity for you to hear a brief review of the grant, updates, and meet Nicollette Mitchell, our newly hired STEM fellow.

Lunch will be served, so please RSVP indicating any food preferences and which of the two dates you would like to join us.

The participation of faculty from across the curriculum and from a broad range of offices was critical to Oberlin receiving the HHMI grant, and the involvement of faculty and staff from all departments and offices is welcomed and encouraged.
