Hala Alyan is a Palestinian American writer and clinical psychologist whose work has appeared in Poetry, Prairie Schooner and Guernica, among others.

Alyan is the author of three collections of poetry, the first of which, ATRIUM (Three Rooms Press), was selected for the Arab American Book Award. The second, Four Cities, was published by Black Lawrence Press, and the most recent, HIJRA (Southern Illinois University Press), was selected as a winner of the 2015 Crab Orchard Series.

Her debut novel, Salt Houses, was published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt this year.

Her visit is a continuation of the efforts by Students for a Free Palestine and Jewish Voice for Peace to continue celebrating Palestinian art and culture. Often, we are so entrenched in conversations about the occupation, that we forget the humanity of Palestinians and the art, literature, music and beauty that they create.

Please join SFP and JVP for an evening of Palestinian poetry and literature opened by some poetry from our very own OSLAM team.
