Guest Master Class: Wu Man, pipa

A guest master class by pipa player and composer Wu Man, for students in Oberlin Performance & Improvisation (PI) Ensembles.

ABOUT PI at OBERLIN
Performance and Improvisation (PI) Ensembles provide an opportunity for students to enrich their existing musical vocabularies and skills through practical exploration of many different world musics and improvisation across a range of genres and styles.

Emphasis is placed on transcription and creating a means of adaptation to the student’s primary (western) instrument. Ensemble instruction is divided into two modules per semester, each focusing on the musical styles of a particular region (Sub-Saharan Africa, South America/Central America/the Caribbean, Northern Africa/the Middle East, Asia).

PI ensembles participate in intensive residencies and collaborative performances with visiting artists.

Please note:
Conservatory visitors are asked to enter the complex through either Bibbins Hall’s east entrance (off College Place, across from the Oberlin College Bookstore) or the Conservatory Lounge’s west entrance (off S. Professor St., adjacent to the Conservatory Pond). All other entrances will be closed to the public.
