Kirsten Pai Buick, professor of art history at the University of New Mexico, gives a lecture on the final years of Edmonia Lewis (1844–1907), a sculptor who attended Oberlin College from 1859 to 1863.
Titled “CODA: Mary Edmonia Lewis, Catholicism, and the Quest for Freedom,” this talk tells how Lewis, a devout Catholic who moved to Rome in 1865, garnered a church patronage that far outlasted her support from abolitionists in America.
