Elisha Gray Showcase

Roderic Knight, emeritus professor of ethnomusicology, will give a brief presentation in front of his showcase display dedicated to Elisha Gray.  Gray attended Oberlin in the 1860s and was Professor of Dynamic Electricity in the physics department from 1880 to 1900. He invented the world’s first electric musical instrument, the Musical Telegraph, in 1874.  He was also known for his invention of the telephone, and a fax machine.

The talk will include a demonstration on a working replica of the musical telegraph.
