Has Medicine Failed the Intersex Community (and can literature save it?)

Dr. Ilene Wong is a practicing urologist and intersex ally, currently serving on the board of interACT: Advocates for Intersex Youth.

After getting an MD from Yale, she did her residency at Stanford, where she met and treated the intersex patient who prompted her intersex advocacy and inspired her debut novel, None of the Above.

She is proud to support her "intersex peeps" by talking about why doctors need to rethink surgeries performed on the genitalia of intersex children before they are able to give informed consent.
