What is Denim Day?: Denim Day became a worldwide day of solidarity for victims of sexual harm after the Italian Supreme Court ruled that since a victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped her assaulter remove those jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans to stand in solidarity with the victim. An organization called Peace Over Violence developed the Denim Day campaign in response to the case and the activism surrounding it. This campaign has since become the longest-running sexual violence prevention and education campaign in history.

Denim Day at Oberlin: For this event, we are going to be having a denim swap in Wilder Bowl, where people can come and receive denim donated by students, faculty, and local community members after donating to our fundraiser for Genesis House! At this swap, there will be stations to decorate denim with fabric paint and embroidery thread. There will also be a raffle that you can be entered in when you donate. This event is truly about educating others and uplifting survivors!
