Carissa Chappell, a graduate student in Classics at the University of California – Santa Barbara, will give a talk at Oberlin College titled “Leaving No Trace: Reading the Asexual Possibility in an Ancient Greek Novel”.  Chappell's talk will be drawn from their essay on the topic, which won the 2024 John J. Winkler Memorial prize, an annual prize given for the best graduate or undergraduate essay in a “risky or marginal area of Classics.”  The essay and talk is based on the ancient Greek romance The Adventures of Leucippe and Cleitophon, the only surviving work by Achilles Tatius.
