"Beyond the Oligarchs: Putin Carves up Russia and Turns his Sights on Trump," presented by journalist Heidi Brown ’93.
In the 20th century, Russia was seen by many in the West as a distant atomic threat. In the 21st century, it’s an uncomfortably close digital and geopolitical one. Heidi Brown, a former reporter who covered Russia’s business scene for Forbes magazine, will discuss the country’s lurching steps into the post-industrial global economy.
With the economic spoils of the 1990s now carved up, and the ruling elite divided by Putin and thwarted by sanctions, Brown, drawing on her own observations covering the corruption and idealism of post-Soviet Russia, will look at why the country is now focusing its ambitions—military and political—abroad.
